Fantastic video! Wave behavior mathematics are difficult to learn at the beginning, and it's not clear what is physically happening in, for example, radio or AC transmission, and why impedance matching is so important. This video makes the reason that is important and how it works clear. I love it!

Slaterville Springs, NY, had a switchboard until the late '60s. I can't count how many times I asked the Ithaca operator for Slaterville 7F-24. If the circuit was free, the operator would connect me and give two long and four short rings. If my then sweetie was home and listening, she'd pick up. It was an eight party line, and the call cost fifteen cents for three minutes. I was glad when Slaterville upgraded to direct dial. Now I miss the switchboard.

Just the perfect level of skipping or assuming concepts vs expounding on steps of logic that an educated listener might expect.

but why do we need to make science interesting to people who aren't interested in science? that seems like one person's goal. not a need. writing in stories is for idiots who can't digest information and just want to be mildly entertained. i cringe every time an article or a book starts with a story, I roll my eyes and try to skip it. But inevitably, because of people like this, all the joy of reading and learning is sucked out of reading and I have to fumble through thousands of words of irrelevant drivel because it was written for the average moron. It's such a shame. The loss of intellectual potential because so many people just want to write in stories is unfathomable. I literally cannot stand when people try and tell stories like this. and it's like 95% of what's published out there.

They were talking about programmers writing documentation for Unix and having programs to help them on grammar and spelling, wished I had that when writing diagnostic software for Radio Shack computer hardware. I had Scripsit (word processor) and my boss finally had me install a spelling dictionary on it. I still wrote some horrible manuals. Coding was my forte, writing manuals not so much.

We had "Inphone" in the UK when modern telephone jacks came in to use, arguably I think ours were/are a better design as they seem to be less prone to having the clip break off, though I understand they were introduced later and as such probably took on lessons learnt from the RJ11 connector.

My wonderful 85 year old grandmother who is my very best friend worked as an operator here in the Galveston/Texas City, Texas area at AT&T for almost 40 years. I absolutely LOVE listening to her stories! It was not an easy gig, especially as a young mom and she worked every holiday. They were very strict on the employees, even taking a bathroom break was a big deal! And missing work just wasn't done. But she loved what she did and is STILL friends with some of the "phone company girls" as she calls them that she worked with to this very day! ❤️ 💜 💕 I would absolutely LOVE to find an old switchboard just so she can show me how it worked. I bet she could remember it like she had just done it yesterday! I'm on the hunt for one, I think she'd get the biggest kick out of it. 😊 She got so good at her job she even learned the sounds each coin would make when someone would put it in the pay phone, so she was able to tell if they were trying to pay less than they needed! So cool to watch how it all used to work. It's amazing the amount of effort that used to go into making a simple phone call! We take for granted now how easy it is to contact someone, even on the other side of the world! It used be an ordeal just to call someone in the next city over. I can't wait to show her this video the time I see her, she'll love it! 🥰🥰

I remember waiting for overseas lines to become available. The girl operator 😆 would tell you we're waiting for a line to open, and you'd hear a sonar ping like sound here and there, till a line was open..."I'll connect you now." Only to talk to an overseas girl operator.

I visited Kodak headquarters on a business trip in the 1980s. On a break we chatted about the future of digital photography. I reasoned that it might replace film. They seemed to think that cameras couldn't ever store enough data for even one or two photos. Now a mobile phone can store thousands of high resolution photos.
